These Advisory Votes are questions that appear on the ballot regarding state expenditures that have already passed the legislature. The advisory vote results do not have any impact while adding significantly to the costs of elections. Voters are not informed about them because reliable information is virtually impossible to find.
Eliminating advisory votes
SB 6610 – a bill to eliminate advisory votes – is scheduled for a public hearing in the Senate Committee on State Government, Tribal Relations, and Elections this Wednesday, Feb 5 at 8:00 am. Click this link to send your input to the legislators–> SB 6610.
Having votes that do not count for anything is inconsistent with League principles. In addition to eliminating advisory votes, SB 6610 also creates a Task Force to study alternative methods of gathering feedback from voters on decisions with significant fiscal impacts. Therefore, the LWV supports passage.
