Daily Democracy Task – Restore The Vote

Restore the Freedom to Vote for People Who Have Been Incarcerated And Served Their Time

Please click here to send a message asking your Senator to vote YES on SSB 6228.

The freedom to vote is fundamental to our democracy, and Washington is a leader in providing access to the ballot for all citizens. But barriers still remain, including the numerous hurdles facing citizens who have lost the freedom to vote due to a felony conviction. Once someone has served their time, their eligibility to vote should be restored.

Daily Democracy Task: Cap Insulin Costs

Daily Democracy Task: Cap Insulin Costs

Senate bill SB6087 would require health plans issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2021 to cap out-of-pocket expenses for a 30-day supply of insulin at $100, and require the HCA to monitor the price of insulin.

Support SB 6087 – provide a cap on Insulin costs

The Senate Committee on Ways and Means has an executive session to vote on SB 6087 this Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at 3:30 pm. Send Senator Warnick an email asking her to vote it out of committee.

Alerts From LWV WA Legislative Newsletter…

CLOSE the revolving door from legislator to lobbyist

Washington state is way behind – someone can be a legislator one day and return as a lobbyist the next. This year we have a real chance at passing something the LWV has been working on for years: prohibiting legislators from leaving office and immediately taking a job as a lobbyist. This practice is so problematic that over 31 states and even Congress prohibit it. Please support passage of HB 1067 and SB 5033 by contacting your legislators here. #NoRevolvingDoor

Bring High Capacity Magazine Bills to a Vote

Restricting High Capacity Magazines HB 2240 and SB 6077 can save lives and injuries while protecting our most vulnerable residents. Please urge your legislators to move bills to the floor of the respective chambers for a vote of the entire body. Send your message here. #GunSafety

State and National Leagues working hard

Here’s what the League of Women Voters is doing at the state and national levels:

The Washington Voting Rights Act, Same Day Registration, and the DISCLOSE Act (campaign finance transparency) have all passed the Senate. Though it is only the fourth week of the session they have all had, or are scheduled to have, a hearing in the House.
