HOW DOES LOCAL JOURNALISM IMPACT DEMOCRACY?

The League of Women Voters of Kittitas County hosted a discussion on the role journalism plays in upholding democracy on April 17 at the Ellensburg Pasta Co. The League believes that the public’s ability to fully participate in our democracy depends on a healthy and reliable system for disseminating information. Most obviously, that role is fulfilled by robust, independent and responsible local news. Donna Etchey, General Manager of the Daily Record, and Joanna Markell, Managing Editor of the Yakima Herald-Republic spoke about the successes and challenges covering local government activities, elections and programs that affect our communities.
